Once a year we celebrate what our mothers have done for us. Show your mom what she means to you by planning a fun day in downtown Wilmington just for her. Downtown Wilmington NC will be hopping on May 14, 2017, with music, tall ships, festivals, brunch, and more. Downtown is the place to be this year, so be sure to take your mom out on Mother’s Day!
Here are some of the fun things to do downtown this Mother’s Day:
1. Wine and Dine Mom at Bellamy Mansion
Treat your mother to one of downtown Wilmington’s favorite festivals, the Wilmington Wine and Food Festival at Bellamy Mansion (and other downtown locations). Mother’s Day is the fun “Bubbles, Brews, and Street Eats” event with champagne and mimosas as well as food trucks, suds from local breweries, and live music! The festival lasts all weekend.
2. Take Mom on a Tall Ship for Mother’s Day
The tall ships Niña and Pinta arrive at Port City Marina in downtown Wilmington May 11, 2017 and will be taking on visitors for 10 days, including Mother’s Day. Take mom to see thses replicas of Christopher Columbus’s ships—they were small indeed to sail the ocean blue in Fourteen Hundred and Ninety Two!
3. Take Mom on a Cape Fear River Cruise on Mother’s Day
You won’t sail on the replica ships, but you can definitely take mom out for a Mother’s Day Cruise on a Cape Fear Riverboat. The Capt. J.N. Maffitt, John Knox and Jacob’s Run are ready to take you and your mom on a 1-hour sightseeing cruise for her special day. Listen to the captain’s entertaining, informative narration and enjoy the fresh air, scenery, and a great view of downtown Wilmington.
Pack a picnic or pick up food from the dockside River Grill and treat your mom to a Mother’s Day cruise that’s a little bit different—and lots of fun. The boats board right at the foot of Dock Street, on the Riverwalk.
4. Treat Your Mom to Brunch
Mom’s Day is one of the biggest brunch days of the year, so call your favorite downtown restaurants and check what’s happening that day. Need ideas? Aubriana’s is offering a special Mother’s Day Brunch, and TheatreNow is hosting brunch with the Nina Repeta Jazz Combo.
5. See a Special Show with your Mom
Get Mom dressed up for a trip to the Wilson Center and a special show. The Wilmington Choral Society presents “A Dozen Roses: Honoring Our Mothers” on May 14, 2017 only. Songs about roses include a Robert Burns poem and a Broadway tune or two as well as some unusual selections. It’s a lovely and unforgettable program for Mother’s Day.
