Erin go bragh! Wilmington, NC is getting ready for the 17th annual St. Patrick’s Day parade and festival March 11, 2017. It’s a day when everyone’s Irish—we all want to join in the Wearin’ o’ the Green.

Start the Parade at the Top o’ Downtown Wilmington

The parade begins at 11 a.m. at Front and Red Cross Streets. It’s hosted by the Friends of the Hibernians, and everyone will be there. If you’re not in the parade, you must be watching it!

Then the St. Patrick’s Day Party Begins

After the parade, head to Dock and Princess Streets for the St. Patrick’s Day Festival—it’s free! There’s live music and dancing, including Gaelic-themed performers, Riverdancers, and more. There will be plenty to eat and drink. Kids are welcome—it’s a great family festival.

Expect Downtown Wilmington to Turn Green for St. Paddy’s Day

St. Patrick’s Day fervor spreads easily, so you will see downtown restaurants offer specials on food and drink. Be sure to check out the places with an Irish theme, such as Slainte, the Copper Penny, and Paddy’s Hollow. But most restaurants and bars in downtown Wilmington will have a little Irish in them for the holiday.

There will be green beer, craft beer, and lots of beer flowing before the day is over.

Cape Fear Riverboats is a Little Irish, Too

Wilmington’s beloved riverboats, the Capt. J.N. Maffitt, the John Knox and Jacob’s Run, are docked just two blocks from the St. Patrick’s Day Festival, and we’ll be waiting with shamrocks on to take weary revelers for a sightseeing cruise. Recharge your batteries on our hour-long sightseeing cruise, then head back into the fray.

Grab a bite and a beverage to bring along on your cruise and have a picnic as you enjoy the sights along the river, beautiful natural scenery, and our captain’s narration. Learn about life on the Cape Fear River, local animals, birds, and fish, and a bit of history. You’ll love the stories about movies and TV shows filmed in Wilmington!
