Happy 2017, Wilmington!
At Cape Fear Riverboats, we always feel a little wistful this time of year. We stop our Cape Fear River cruises during the coldest part of the year, instead spending time on maintenance and planning. We miss being out on the water and meeting new friends. But we enjoy the quiet season, too.
The new year is also a time for reflection. We look back on what worked for us in the past year—and what could benefit from a reassessment. Sometimes we must make a New Year’s resolution two years in a row, just to make it stick.
All of us at Cape Fear Riverboats would like to wish you a happy new year and much success in keeping your own New Year’s resolutions.
New Year’s Resolution #1: Never Stop Improving
We’ve seen a lot of change in 2016: We said goodbye to the Henrietta and welcomed Jacob’s Run, we expanded and opened the River Grill, and we chose our favorite cruise events to continue, like our Murder Mysteries. Change is good—it always offers new possibilities.
In 2017, we resolve to look for ways to improve everything we do. Some routines work well, but almost everything can be better if you look carefully, with a fresh eye.
If you have suggestions for ways to improve our cruises, customer service, or the River Grill, we’d love to hear them! Please send us a note online or call (910) 343-1611.
New Year’s Resolution #2: An Attitude of Gratitude
We are so grateful for your patronage in 2016—and your future patronage too. We resolve to be grateful for all the wonderful parts of our work:
- Being out on the Cape Fear River
- Taking folks out on a cruise to celebrate weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, and family reunions
- Teaching school kids (and everyone) about our cool area history
We also resolve to be grateful for mechanical breakdowns, rainy days, and missed appointments, because they make us appreciate the good things so much more.
New Year’s Resolution #3: Spotlight on Downtown Wilmington
We are really lucky to work in downtown Wilmington, and we resolve to brag about it whenever we can. It isn’t hard to think of reasons! We love:
- The natural beauty of being outdoors on the Riverwalk
- Amazing restaurants and bars
- A cool art and music scene
- Festivals like Riverfest, the Azalea Festival, and Downtown Sundown
- Great museums
- Large and small theaters
- Shopping and the farmer’s market
