December and January and February don’t immediately come to mind as great times to get out on the Cape Fear River. We think of it as too cold, too… winter. But the truth is somewhat different. Winter is actually a great time to charter a boat.
The first thing that likely comes to mind about winter charters is the concern that it will be too cold. We understand! The average temperature in December and February in the Wilmington area is 60 degrees. January is typically our coldest month with an average high of 56 degrees. It’s warm enough that if you were at a restaurant or bar in downtown Wilmington with an outside area, such as the Anne Bonny, you’d be able to use it quite comfortably. In cases where the wind picks up, our charter boats are covered and have clear vinyl walls that can be used to buffet against the wind.
We have three charter boats: the John Knox, Captain Maffitt, and the Jacob’s Run. You can charter one or more boats. The John Knox seats 31 and the Captain Maffitt and Jacob’s Run both seat 48.
The Jacob’s Run is outfitted for dinner service. It fits 30 people at a seated dinner or 48 people at a stand-up reception.
When you charter one of our boats, you have three food service options:
- A catered dinner with your choice of caterer
- Bring along your own food and drinks
- Order food and drinks from the Anne Bonny, our dockside restaurant that boasts the best riverside burger in North Carolina
When you charter your boat(s) we’ll talk through what you’d like to do and assist you in any way we can to get the food on the boat(s).
If you’re looking for something different, try this unique party-on-the-river. With beautiful scenery, fresh air, and the best-ever view of downtown Wilmington, a dinner party on Jacob’s Run is a night you’ll be talking about for years.
Consider a private charter dinner cruise on Jacob’s Run for:
- A wedding rehearsal dinner
- A birthday party
- A family reunion
- A special treat for a staff party
