We’re sprucing up our newest boat with a little touchup work and a paint job. Very soon, Jacob’s Run will be giving narrated sightseeing cruises up and down the Cape Fear River. Keep an eye out and stop to welcome her at our dock at Water and Dock Streets!
Thanks for Your Help Choosing a Name
We asked for your help in renaming our newest boat, and you responded in spades on our Facebook page. Thanks, Wilmington!
It was hard to choose from the array of names you offered. We got some funny suggestions, like “Boaty Mcboatface,” the “S.S. Minnow” and “Knota Yaughta.” We got some elegant suggestions, too: “The Dream of the River,” “Mighty Star,” and the “Sea Pearl.”
Several people suggested we give our new boat a name with local flavor, such as the “Azalea” or the “Port City Princess.” And some suggested naming after local people of note, such as “Charles II,” the king who granted the land to the founders of our state; “Elizabeth Cotton,” a noted North Carolina musician; or our own “Cap’t. Marshburn.”
It was hard to choose, but in the end, our newest boat is named for the tunnel that runs beneath downtown Wilmington. Welcome, Jacob’s Run!
We’re Getting Jacob’s Run Ready for Wilmington Boat Tours & Charters
Jacob’s Run is a 48-passenger boat that previously gave history cruises along the New Hampshire coast. She is 50 feet long and 14 feet wide, built in 1979, and is currently getting a bit of paint and some detailing before starting her duties along the Cape Fear River.
Jacob’s Run will join our other boats, the Captain J.N. Maffitt and the John Knox, in giving narrated sightseeing cruises and private daytime and evening charters on the Cape Fear. And Captain Carl Marshurn is still searching for a boat to replace the Henrietta III in our fleet.
We Welcome Spring and Jacob’s Run
We’re ready to get out on the river! Find Jacob’s Run and our other boats at the foot of Dock Street in downtown Wilmington, NC. Pick up a snack or a drink for the ride at the River Grill, Cape Fear River Tours and Charter’s dockside concession, too.
And enjoy a relaxing, fun, informative ride on Jacob’s Run, the Captain Maffitt or the John Knox. There’s no better way to see Wilmington than from the decks of one of our boats.
